100 FACES

2014-2016

100 FACES is a Series of portrait painting that Hiroyasu Tsuri have worked on during 2014-2016. 

It is a portrait of people who he have met, or saw on the street, train, airport, Museum, bars and cafes from all over the world.

The painting are mostly made from the 35mm photography with Olympus Pen EE, and Trip, or He made a quick sketch with pen and paper on the spot, Then those material are used as reference to make a 24x32cm painting with watercolor, spay paint, pencil, and anything that was around him at the time. 

Hence the process and the Hiroyasu’s painting style is spontaneous, and gestural, this pieces rather aim to capture the subject realistically, he believe it captures the atmopsphia, and emotions of the subject, and it creates a playful, and bold paintings. 

 Also by capturing the subject from his trip to Asia, Euro, and States, he got to have very wide variety of race, nationality, and background of people, and towards to the end of the project, Hiroyasu started to realized that this series is capturing portrait of this 21st century’s zeitgeist. 

The series was composed as a 217 paged book in 2016 designed by Timba Smith.

In 2016, the full series was exhibited at Backwoods gallery, Melbourne, Australia.
